Doctoral and Masters Programs

Commencing in July 2010, School Shall offer:

  • Doctoral Program in Architecture and Planning
  • Master in Architecture (Urban Design)
  • Master in Planning (Urban and Regional Planning)

Doctoral Program in Architecture and Planning
The Doctoral program at the school is conceived to encourage independent and interdisciplinary research that has relevance to the present needs of social, cultural and environmental sustenance. To keep pace with the expanding horizons of knowledge the program provides a research environment that has strong theoretical grounding and looks for application of knowledge to develop solutions that focus on issues relating to settlements and habitat.

The Program is offered in following categories
  • Regular full-time scholars with school fellowship or project support.
  • Govt./ Semi Govt. Fellowship/ Scholarship awardees.
  • Self-financed (Indian/ Foreign/ Study Leave)
Eligibility: Master Degree in Architecture/ Planning or equivalent degree with a good academic record.

Fellowship for Doctoral Program
The School has provision for Doctoral Fellowships for full time candidates.
To be considered for fellowship a candidate should have, a valid GATE score or Govt./ Non-Govt. Fellowship/ Scholarship.
Candidates not having a valid GATE score or Govt./ Non-Govt. Fellowship/ Scholarship can be considered for award of fellowship if they have minimum of two years of work experience.

Master in Architecture (Urban Design)
Indian cities with uncontrolled and chaotic development, loss of coherence and character and decreasing quality of urban life, sadly lack the clarity and cohesion of urban form and structure. The Masters program at the school aims to address urgent need of enhancing the lived experience of cities. The prime focus is on estimating the role of urban form in shaping our cities using innovative design approaches and theoretical research. It is a two year postgraduate program leading to a degree of Master of Architecture.

Eligibility: B.Arch. with 55% marks in aggregate.

Master in Planning (Urban and Regional Planning)
In India growing needs of increasing population coupled with a very fast pace of urbanization is resulting in depletion of natural resources, stressful work conditions, polluted enviornment and changing social-structure. The two year post graduate program leading to a degree of Master in Planning (urban and Regional Planning) at the school aims to produce professional planners who are equipped to assist communities, organization and policymakers in addressing the present day problems of settlements & Developing new ways of improving cities & regions.

Eligibility: 55% marks in aggregate in any one of the following disciplines:
B.Arch./ B.Plan.
B.E./ B.Tech. in Civil Engineering
M.Sc./ M.A. in (Geography/ Economics/ Sociology)

Fellowship for Masters Programs

All candidates with valid GATE/NET score will be eligible for Fellowship as per G.O.I norms.
Candidates without GATE/NET score will be eligible to apply for Institute Fellowship/ Research assistantship available from time to time.

Application Forms along with information brochure are available on cash payment of Rs. 100/- The application forms can also be downloaded from the website of School of Planning and Architecture, Bhopal.

Completed application form should be accompanied by a DD of Rs. 1000/- drawn on an nationalized bank in favor of Director, SPA Bhopal, payable at Bhopal
