Notice for admission to M.A. Course in Journalism and Mass Communication (Session 2009 –2010)

Application are invited from eligible candidates in prescribed forms available at the University Sales Counter, College Street Campus, Kolkata -73 for admission test on payment of Rs.400/-Honours Graduate in Journalism and Mass Communication of this University may collect application forms on payment of Rs. 50/- on production of Honours Part III Marks sheet for apply to direct admission quota.

Eligibility : Honours Graduate (under 10+2+3 system) in any discipline (age within 30 years as on 1.6.2009 and Working Journalist (Preferably Honours Graduate) with 3 years experience in any field of media and within 35 years as on 1.6. 2009. Successful candidates in Communicative English (Major) will also be eligible to sit for the entrance examination.

No. of seats : 75 (including all categories). A maximum of 25 seats will be allotted for direct admission (i.e. without admission test) on the basis of the result of B.A.(Hons.) Part III examination under this University with Journalism and Mass Communication as the Honours subject.

Admission Schedule : a) Application forms (for all categories) available from 13th July 2009 to 27th July 2009 between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. b) Last date of submission of duly filled in applications (for all categories) 27th July 2009 c) Admission Test : 2nd August 2009(Sunday) at 12 noon. Venue – Asutosh Building, Calcutta University, College Street Campus d) Publication of the list of selected candidates (Hons. In Journalism and Mass Communication) 28th July 2009 e) Publication of list of eligible candidates for group discussion and personal interview : 14th August 2009 f)Date of group discussion and personal interview 17th and 18th August 2009 g) Final list will be published on 21st August 2009 h)Admission (for all categories) to commence on 24th August 2009 i) Classes to commence on 31st August 2009.

N.B. Duly filled in applications (for all categories ) are to be submitted to the office of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. Admit Card for the Admission test will also be distributed from the same office. List of selected candidates will be displayed on the notice board of the Department and candidates will not be intimated individually. Selection will be as per University norms and with due observance of reservation rules etc.
SC/ST/PH reservation will be as per University rules. A maximum of 21 seats (of the total 75 seats) will be allotted for SC/ST candidates.

Students are required to attend at least 65% of the total classes to be eligible for being sent up for the University examinations. If any student remains absent from classes continuously for 15 days or 30 days (with interruptions) within the first two months from the date of admission his/her studentship will terminate and name will automatically be struck off the rolls.

Eligibility : Honours Graduate in Bengali or in any one Indian Language or Com- parative Literature or Linguistics of this University or equivalent as recognised by the University of Calcutta. Reservation as per rules and University norms.

POST GRADUATE DIPLOMA IN BOOK PUBLISHING STUDIES (PGDBPS)

Are you a graduate in any stream? Then collect your Application Form for admission to the one-year Postgraduate Diploma Course in Book Publishing Studies (PGDBPS). Application Forms are available at the C U SALES COUNTER, Asutosh Building (Ground Floor), College Street Campus, Kolkata-700073 on payment of Rs.200 in cash from 20 July 2009 to18 August 2009. (Time: 11am – 3pm). Application Forms can also be downloaded from the University website and from the website of the Publishers & Booksellers Guild.

Eligibility: Graduation in any discipline (Honours / Pass/ General/ Vocational etc) from a recognized university. A candidate appeared at the final examination for graduation is also eligible to apply. However, if selected, such a candidate has to submit the proof (pass certificate, mark sheet etc) of his/her graduation before admission to this course.

Intake: Twenty Five (25) in total. Five seats are reserved for candidates sponsored by publishing/printing organizations. One seat for NRI/ Foreign candidates.

Application Forms are available at the C U SALES COUNTER, Asutosh Building (Ground Floor), College Street Campus, Kolkata-700073 on payment of Rs.200 in cash from 20 July 2009 to 18 August 2009. However, in such cases, please enclose with the application a crossed bank draft/ bankers cheque of Rs. 200/- drawn in favour of ‘PGDBP, CU’ payable at Kolkata.

Application Forms, properly filled-in, shall have to be submitted to the CSBP office at Asutosh Building (First Floor), College Street Campus, Kolkata-700073 between 2-00pm and 6-30 p.m. at the CSBP Office.
