PUBLIC MANAGEMENT AND POLICY (PGP-PMP) from IIM AHMEDABAD

PGP-PMP is a rigorous One-Year Full-Time residential programme in public management and policy with focus on governance and policy formulation and implementation, infrastructure development and financing, and public enterprise management. PGP-PMP has been designed to sharpen the skills and broaden the perspectives of civil servants, managers of parastatals and public enterprises, professionals from NGOs, executives of private sector firms dealing with public management issues, and tose pursuing political careers with legislative experience.

The programme has an international exchange/ attachment module which has been designed to expose participants to public management policies and practices followed in a different cultural context.


Executives from public sector enterprises, parastatals, government and its organizations, and large private corporations are encouraged to apply. The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), GOI has signed an MoU with IIMA under which DoPT would partially support a few Class I civil servants of Group (A) Services for the programme.

ELIGIBILITY:
1. A bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline.
2. Seven or ore years of work experience or legislative experience of between 1 to 5 years by March 2009.
3. GMAT, GRE or CAT scores. GMAT/GRE score should have been obtained between April 1, 2006 and November 3, 2008, and CAT scores from any of the last three

CATs.
4. Candidates not having GMAT/ GRE/ CAT may also apply. Such candidates would have to appear for a specially desinged test.
5. Shortlisting for interviews would be based on test score / GMAT/ GRE/ CAT score and application rating.

HOW TO APPLY:

Admission Procedure:
Application form for the third programme (2009-10) which begins on April 1, 2009 is available online. The deadline for receipt of applications is November 3, 2008 with GMAT (www.mba.com) /GRE (www.ets.org) score obtained between April 1, 2006 and November 3, 2008 or CAT score from any of the last three CATs. To ensure that GMAT scores are sent directly to IIMA, please enter IIMA PGP-PMP Code: CQQ-RR:62. Candidates without GMAT/GRE/CAT may also apply but they will be short-listed on the basis of application rating for a specially designed test of IIMA to be conducted simultaneously at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Delhi, and Kolkatta. All short-listed candidates are expected to spend a day at IIMA where they would meet with the faculty and attend an interview. The admission process will be completed by January 5, 2009. Selected candidates are expected to make their own arrangements for obtaining leave, etc. from their organizations.

Eligibility Criteria:
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any discipline and should have at least seven years of work experience by March 2009 in a supervisory / managerial / administrative position. Candidates with legislative experience are also eligible to apply provided they are (i) 27 or more years old, and (ii) have one year or more of experience as a minister at the central level or as a member of parliament or 2 years or more of experience as minister at the state level or as member of thelegislative assembly / council; or have served for 5 years or more as councillor of municipal corporation or of jilla parishad. All candidates would have to have bachelor’s degree without exception. All candidates should have a GMAT/GRE score obtained between April 1, 2006 and November 3, 2008 or CAT score from any of the last three CATs. Those without GMAT/GRE/CAT will be short-listed on the basis of application rating for a specially designed test of IIMA to be conducted simultaneously at Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Delhi, and Kolkatta.

Selection of candidates for interviews and final selection for admission will be based on multiple criteria and not on any particular parameter. It is possible that candidates with higher test scores than those who are selected may not have been short-listed for interviews or offered admission.

Fees and Expenses:
The fee, excluding board, lodging and international attachment / exchange, is about INR 12,90,000. Please see FAQ 30(a) for full details of fees.

Financial Aid:
Fellowships to cover part or full tuition and related fee may be available to top 10 per cent of participants.

Several banks are interested in offering loans to those admitted to PGP-PMP. IIMA will facilitate bank loans to all those who are in need of them.
