NACO-Research Fellowship Scheme

NACO invites applications in prescribed format from young researchers to provide opportunity and incentive to pursue quality and need based research in HIV/AIDS in bio-medical/ clinical, epidemiological, behavioral and social disciplines.

Eligibility Criteria :

Age: Below 35 years at the time of application.
Qualification: PG Students enrolled for full-time MD/MPhil/PhD degree program in relevant disciplines from any recognized Indian University/Institute.

Selection Criteria
The selection of the candidates for award of research fellowship will be done after technical evaluation of the research plan by the panel of subject experts. Applications received will be assessed based on the following parameters:

• Relevance to NACP III strategies.
• Innovation.
• Methodology and study design.
• Academic achievement of the candidate.

The decision of the `NACO Technical Resource Group' on Research and Development, in this regard will be final.

Requests for reconsideration will not be entertained.

Components of Grant

NACO Research Fellowship grant will be given to the respective Institution/ Department in full for the awardees students. NACO will award up to 20 Fellowships per year for financial assistance. The maximum grant for each fellowship will be limited up to Rupees 1.5 lakhs.

The fellowship covers stipend and contingent expenditure on transport/travel, stationery, preparation of report, consumables, printing etc.

Financial support will not be provided for:

• Non-expendable articles such as equipment, vehicle, furniture etc.
• Foreign travel or other expenses for visit abroad.

Procedure to Submit a Proposal


The application form will include rationale, methodology, study location, time line and budget detail.

In addition, Organization/ Institute profile, Curriculum vitae of Principal Investigators/ Guide and Co-Guide along with publications in the relevant field should also be enclosed.

NACO will consider applications received through proper channel only with a certificate on official letter-head duly recommended by the Guide/Supervisor and Head of the Department/Institute where the candidate proposes to work.

In case more than one application is submitted by a candidate, they will be automatically rejected.

Mobility India (MI) was established in Bangalore in 1994, to address issues regarding persons with disabilities. Mobility India gives priority to women and children from lower strata of the society.

In the current scenario, Mobility India is one of the largest professional NGO's in the disability and development sector. The key strengths of the organization have been in the areas of prosthetics/ orthotics and related rehabilitation services with a strong focus on community based rehabilitation approach. The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) reinforces the fact that disability is a human rights issue. Keeping this in mind, Mobility India's approach in all its activities is to provide better opportunities and access to people with disabilities and their families leading to a positive impact and improvement in their quality of life.

Mobility India's Rehabilitation Research and Training Centre (MIRRTC) based in Bangalore is a model of disability friendliness and houses all its activities here. It also has a Regional Resource Centre in Kolkata.

Mobility India trains and develops manpower (preference is given to persons with disabilities) in the field of Orthotics, Prosthetics and Rehabilitation Therapy.

Since 2002, Mobility India has trained secondary and tertiary level professionals to work at grass root level enabling a positive change in the field of disability and development.


About Prosthetics & Orthotics
Prosthetics and Orthotics(P&O) is a paramedical and engineering based healthcare profession which deals with habilitation and rehabilitation of physical impaired individuals. Typically these persons suffer from limb malfunctions, abnormalities or absence or loss of limbs or other body parts that prevent a person from leading an active life.

Once qualified, a prosthetist or an orthotist can work in collaboration with other healthcare professionals to provide a holistic service to address issues such as polio, amputation, rheumatoid arthritis, cerebral palsy, diabetes, stroke etc. In addition to this, people would need an external support for movement and strength to manage their day to day activities. The P&O professionals require to be highly trained and skilled to help persons with disabilities, to return to a active life by fitting them with appropriate orthoses and prostheses.




ELIGIBILITY:

10+2 from recognized Central/State Board or equivalent, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Mathematics(PCB or M) with 50% aggregate marks for general merit students and 40% in case of SC/ST/OBC candidates.
International students (Foreign Nationals) can also apply.
Preference will be given to persons with disabilities.
Candidates should have attained the age of 17 years on or before 31st December during the year of admission.

Eligibility

The candidates for the programme must have one of the following qualifications obtained from any of the universities incorporated by an act of the central or state legislature in India or other educational institutions established by an act of parliament or declared to be deemed as a university under section 3 of UGC Act, 1956, or possess an equivalent qualification recognized by the Ministry of HRD, Government of India, or an equivalent qualification from an institution approved by AICTE.

A Masters’ degree or its equivalent in any discipline with minimum 55% aggregate marks

OR

A Bachelors Degree in Engineering with 60% marks or equivalent grade point average

OR

Any professional qualifications such as CA, ICWA and CS with a minimum 55% aggregate marks.

In addition, all the candidates must have secured a minimum of 55 % marks in all their public examinations starting with the secondary level. Work experience in industry or academics, though not mandatory, will be given due credit in the selection process
Those who are appearing for their final year examination in the current academic year may also apply. However, their admission to the programme will be provisional subject to their successful completion of all requirements for obtaining the relevant degree before 30 June 2009.

Age Limit
Candidates must not be more than 45 years of age as on 30th June, 2009.
