Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (CIMAP) is a constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), which is a central autonomous body under the Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India. The Institute conducts research in all frontline areas of plant biology, agriculture and chemistry. The institute invites applications from eligible candidates for admission in CIMAP-JNU Ph.D programme (2008-2009) leading to award of Ph.D degree from JNU. Candidates who have completed or will be completing M.Sc. in life sciences (Agriculture/ Botany/ Chemistry / Biotechnology/ Bioscience/ Biochemistry/ Molecular Biology/ Bioinformatics) with minimum 55 % marks and have cleared CSIR UGC NET Exam/ ICMR NET Exam / DBT JRF Exam or any other Exam leading to JRF/ SRF fellowship tenable at CIMAP (as on 3rd August, 2008) are eligible for selection under the programme to carry out advanced research in the area of Biotechnology/ Genomics/ Plant Tissue Culture/ Bioinformatics/ Plant Physiology/ Metabolomics/ Biochemistry/ Microbiology/ Botany and Pharmacogonosy/ Natural Product/ Synthetic/ Analytical/ Process Chemistry/ Agronomy/ Soil Science/ Plant Nutrition/ Crop Improvement/ Crop Protection/ Agricultural Economics & Extension, etc. The selection will be made on the basis of interview only. GATE qualified and sponsored in-service candidates having passed the prescribed qualifying examination with Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 6.75 in 0-10 scale grading system or 60% marks in aggregate. However, this prescribed minimum shall be a CGPA of 6.25 or 55% marks in the aggregate for SC/ST/OBC candidates. Candidates without GATE score but with minimum CGPA of 6.75 or 60% marks in aggregate can also apply. Candidates seeking admission under sponsored quota must have a minimum of two years of full time work experience in a registered firm/company/industry/educational and research institution/any government department/autonomous organization, in the relevant field in addition to the eligibility criteria mentioned above. They have to apply in prescribed form (NITS//AC/01) along with the application form (NITS/AC/02 through their employers with suitable endorsement. All sponsored candidates satisfying the above criteria will be called for written test. In case the sponsored candidates fail to produce sponsorship certificate at the time of admission, their admission will stand cancelled. Written test shall be conducted for all the candidates. Candidates expecting to complete Bachelors degree by the end of July 2008 with a minimum CGPA of 6.75 or 60% marks are also eligible to apply.
